Today I'm here to talk to you about English and why it's important to include it in our children's education from a young age.
English is the most widely spoken language in the world and is considered the universal language.
This means that when people from different countries get together, they all choose English to communicate: at work, at events, in foreign countries...
There are 4 reasons why English is important today:
- It opens the doors to a wider world of work
- It allows you to access a greater and better educational offer
- It is the language of the Internet
- Helps improve your brain
The importance of English in the workplace
The world is increasingly connected. It's not unusual for a company from the other side of the planet to come to our country. The odds of being asked to speak English at work are high these days.
Thanks to this, job opportunities are increasing.
But to access them, you need to communicate in a language that everyone understands: English.
Mastering English will make it easier for you to access better jobs, or even reach more people in the business.
The importance of English in education
Just as English will undoubtedly open up the job market for you, it will also open up education.
Not only will they be able to access many online courses and training offered in English, but if they demonstrate a good level of English, they will be able to study at universities almost anywhere in the world.
Furthermore, English is the language of science and progress. Everything discovered and innovative is first written in English.
If our children master English, they will have access to information much sooner than if we don't.
English is the language of the Internet
The online world also expresses itself in English.
By speaking this language, our children will have access to people and resources from all over the world.
They'll be able to network, read articles, collaborate on projects... all thanks to knowing how to speak English fluently.
Studying English makes you smarter
English or any other language.
Studying a second language makes our brains work in new and different ways.
Learning a new language helps improve memory and conscious thinking.
In addition to making us much more independent and developing more critical thinking.
It helps keep our brain strong and healthy and helps us think in different ways than we did before.
It's never too early to start learning English
Helping little ones learn English from a young age opens a door of possibilities for them.
Giving our little ones the opportunity to have contact with another language at home, such as English in my case, is very beneficial, and we make it easy for them from a young age.
Speaking a little about my experience, I have certain rules in my house that we implement. For example, we watch television, programs, and movies in English unless otherwise permitted. We'll watch them in Spanish, but if allowed, we'll always listen to them in English. This way, we help our children sharpen their hearing, learn pronunciation better, and their comprehension improves every time.
And I don't know if you find it difficult to watch a particular show or movie over and over again, so what better way for them to listen to it over and over again in English? And if they don't understand it well the first time, their understanding will gradually improve with each repeat. Listening to children's songs in English also helps a lot; they even memorize them, and that's when they unconsciously begin to speak the language.
I love the idea of learning through singing, and that's why I have a playlist with all the songs included in our poster set.
I also sometimes try to speak to them in English, and gradually have them respond to me in English. Reading stories in English is another great idea, and as they grow older and begin to read in Spanish, we can introduce them to English with short stories. Or even start by reading the entire contents of our OOOK! Learning Supplies.
Having them in a bilingual school will also add a lot of value, but I'm certainly sure that small details we do at home to reinforce it and help them become familiar with it from an early age will be very useful.
There are thousands of ways to make it fun and playful.
And if you're not familiar with our products yet, you'll find a set of memory cards or flashcards, featuring four themes with cards in English and Spanish separately, so you'll always know the translation. It features large, legible print, colorful images, and thick cards that will last a long time.
You can also find poster sets, and here I offer the option in English only or English-Spanish. This set includes 13 topics that they will study throughout their preschool education.
And our English map includes all the country capitals, labels for continents and oceans, and illustrations of certain attractions of interest so they can further recognize and identify countries.
I hope this post encourages you to start teaching English to your little ones right now.
A hug,
Gaby.
